About the Founder
Abby Olson
Abby has been a wife to her husband, Jeff, for 27 years, a mother to four daughters, and a mother-in-law, and she has recently embraced the joyful role of Grandma! She has served in ministry alongside her husband for 28 years, with the past 11 years on staff at The Waters Church in Sartell.
Throughout her life, Abby has taken on many roles—marrying young, balancing a career, becoming an adoptive mom, being a stay-at-home mom, serving as a pastor’s wife, leading small groups and mission trips, homeschooling, and most recently, trying new things on a hobby farm. In every season, she has been deeply blessed by the wisdom and support of other women who have walked alongside her, reinforcing her belief in the power of mentoring and meaningful connections. This passion led her to pioneer and facilitate a mentorship program at her church over the past eight years, helping women discover and step into their God-given potential through intentional relationships. It has been an honor for her to serve in this way and witness all that God is doing.
The Why…
With a desire to see women grow in their faith at The Waters Church, we sought ways to help deepen their relationship with Christ and build community. In 2016, we created an opportunity for women to be partnered with others further along in their faith journey through mentoring relationships. We named this ministry “Becoming Her” because we believe every woman is on a journey of seeking Christ and discovering her true identity in Him. As we embrace this identity and purpose, we can live the abundant life God intended for us, as Jesus said in John 10:10b: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Just as we sought to find a way to connect women within our church, we discovered that many other churches shared the same desire. That’s why we created this website—to equip and support other churches in launching their own mentoring ministries with greater ease. This website offers free tools and resources that we’ve developed along the way as the framework for building this successful ministry, and we are excited to share them with you.
As the need for mentorship grew, we recognized the importance of equipping and training mentors with the essentials of mentorship in a more efficient way. To meet this need, we created a curriculum designed to provide practical tips and foundational guidance for mentoring in a way that is rooted in Scripture.
This training can be utilized in a group setting or by individuals with a passion for discipling others who want to be equipped with helpful resources.
